Alhamdulillah. All praise to Allah who has given us a chance to meet again with Ramadhan this year. May Allah guide us through this holy month and accept our fasts, prayers and may Allah forgive our sins. Aamiin. As in previous years, I’m happy to be able to participate again in Lubna’s Ramadhan event, Joy From Fasting to Feasting. Thank you for the trust you have placed in me (again), Lubna.
How quickly time goes by and Ramadhan come again, greeted joyfully by all Muslims around the world. My family alsowelcomes the holy month with joy. We assume Ramadhan as special moment to increase our worships and faith and it starts within the family. Because parents are partner in the learning journey of their kids. So let us take a full advantage of this sacred time by learning how to forgive, share, patience and sacrifice.
For this special post for Joy From Fasting to Feasting VII, I made a deep fried snack which is very easy as one two three. In fact, in where I live, Jakarta, Fried Sweet Potato Balls can be found at any time. Some fritter street vendors sell many kind of fritters with cheap price and these Fried Sweet Potato Balls are one of them. But you have to make sure that the food you give to your family is made from best ingredients, guaranteed hygiene and good quality which you can only get by make your iftar snack at home.
These balls have smooth surface, crunchy outside and chewy inside with slightly sweet aftertaste. Made from humble ingredients, Fried Sweet Potato Balls can be a perfect starter to Ramadhan Iftar tasty snack. I came up with quick and time saving idea, because normally mothers cook many food for sahoor and iftar meals. Due to the easiness of the cooking process, you can avoid from washing a sink full of dirty dishes, especially when you don’t have dishwasher like me. ;p
Fried Sweet Potato Balls
INGREDIENTS:
- 500 gr sweet potato, wash
- 65 gr tapioca flour
- 50 gr caster sugar
- vegetable oil for deep-frying
PREPARATION:
- Steamed sweet potato for 25 minutes until cooked through, remove from the heat Peel the skin off and mash the sweet potato using masher until smooth. Add in tapioca flour and caster sugar. Mix lightly with your hand to get soft dough and until the dough no longer sticky to your hand. Divide dough into small, equal, portions and roll them into balls.
- Heat up oil in a wok with medium low heat. Deep fry sweet potato balls until golden brown, remove and drain on a paper towel. Sprinkle with powdered sugar or serve with maple syrup.
– I use less sugar in the recipe because I like to eat the balls with powdered sugar sprinkle on top or with maple syrup. So, if you want only the balls without powdered sugar or maple syrup, then use 120gr caster sugar for the recipe.Last year from Tika – Sweet Potato Balls in Coconut Sugar Syrup
