About Me

Soon next month my blog ‘Yummy Food’ is going to turn ‘4’ and I wonder to find there is no ‘About Me’ page…a page fully dedicated to me, the person behind this blog….a page which tells you bit more about the author, photographer, nurturer, story teller, cook, writer, etc…..all in all ‘ME’…

I, Me, Myself

Lubna Karim, the face behind ‘Yummy Food’. A science student turned into a management graduate finally ending up in the kitchen, experimenting and experiencing the joys of cooking…..along with enjoying her mommyhood being mom to a cute little toddler…who most of the times keeps me on toes…..

Hobbies & Passion:

I love reading, reading and reading. Right now I am addicted to reading cookbooks which I won for some of my recipes and which I bought to explore more about cooking…One hidden passion I discovered off late and only because of blogging was ‘Photography’. I never thought I was interested and someday I get obsessed with photography….Food photography is my passion. Apart from food, I love to click and capture the world around me…..which you can see here.

How and when ‘Yummy Food’ was born?

A new bride in a new city….with lots of time and longing for mom’s food….I had small hand written book with recipes which I got from my Mom, MIL and SIL before leaving to start my own kitchen. That was the only ray of hope at that time…Initially for every recipe I cooked….I use to flip the pages a dozen timesJ. And in this course, I discovered sites loaded with tempting recipes, yum photos and much more….It was like an addiction to me.....Whenever I am going to cook anything, I use to search for the recipe, and as days go by it became an habit…I am hooked….I started trying out new recipes and got compliments from friends and family members whenever I made for them….When my cousins and friends, started saying why don’t you start your own blog…I was like….whether to or not to?????…..But soon I started one to keep the record of my cooking…and it was very spontaneous, I thought of the name ‘Yummy Food’ and started off my blog….and hence the birth of this blog with very first recipe Aloo-Gohst KaKhorma is born….

Journey so far:

It’s been wonderful journey so far….there were the days when I got mad when internet connection was down…..My blog has been my reflection and my identity….People know me more because of my blog….I made some wonderful friends round the globe….and I was very lucky enough to find the same interest sharing persons staying very close to my house….I have won so many fabulous cookbooks by participating in events/giveaways….which adds more GEMS to my crown….In the course of the journey, I got promoted from caring wife to new and adorable mom to a sweet little princess….I met so many food bloggers in person….started doing reviews on products, cafes and books….met Chef Ratnani in person….I even got featured in ‘Bangalore Mirror’….. and much more…..

Camera and Photography:

I know you all might be very enthusiastic in knowing bit more about it….I use Sony DSC H50 and it’s a simple SLR camera. I got it as gift from my husband on our 3 wedding anniversary. At that time I knew very little about the magical spell, that camera is going to do on me…..Now I just can’t imagine my life without camera….I love to click food and my little M….I find these two things are to be captured and sealed to sit back and cherish……I have done an series on ‘Food Photography & Styling’ by calling the best Food photographers in the blog world to share there views, tips and techniques. You can read the series here.

Events and Celebrations:

My first ever event on ‘Yummy Food’ was ‘Joy From Fasting ToFeasting’ a global Ramadan event which has not only given me a chance to know more about the celebration of holy month called Ramadan and EID…..but also gave me a chance to connect with fellow Muslim bloggers round the globe….knowing there cultures and customs….This event has seen four seasons of Ramadan till now….InshaAllah will continue to do so in future…More events were RendezvousWith Kitchen Flavours and I guest hosted FIC-White.

Layout, Design and Code:

I love playing with HTML, I have done a summer course in HTML and Scripting. I like to play around twisting, torturing and turning out code to make my blog look appealing. The header of ‘Yummy Food’ is designed by me and I like to keep it changing from time to time…to give an refreshing look to my blog….The menubar under the header is also done by me….The script to make the images dull and highlight when you roll your mouse on them in KitchenFlavours Menu was also done by me…..That’s why some of my blog buddies nick named me as ‘crazy mom’…..which I like it to full….

Cherished, Memorable and Magical Moments:

By seeing my comment on muffin liners, at Finla’s blog, Dershana has couriered me very beautiful and pretty muffin liners. I always cherish this moment.

Most of my recipes have been adored and admired you people…but my Rava Kesari got huge number of comments and one which was memorable was….Shweta (whom I don’t even know) one of my blog reader mailed me saying….’Girl your Rava Kesari is haunting me in dreams’ You platted it so beautifully that I am carving for it right now….and going to make it at this time of midnight.

The day when I discovered a Valarmathi and me stay in the same apartment building……the day when I got a call from Bhavya of Bangalore Mirror for my interview for news paper, it was one of the magical moment which I can never forget…..

Big thanks to all the readers, commenters, silent visitors and etc. who make ‘yummy food’ what it is today…..without your love and support nothing could have been possible…..THANK YOU……

Love that you have an About section now so we can get to know you better...Your photography is amazing and has improved leaps and bounds since you started! Love how you do all the HTML yourself. Sometimes I think I should get a web designer to make mine look all nice but then when I look at it know I have satisfaction that I did it myself..may not by the best out there but it's something I did.
